About Educational Theatre

Confronted with an urgent need for preventive health information in the communities we serve,
Kaiser Permanente created the Educational Theatre Programs in 1984 to inspire children,
teens and adults to make informed decisions about their health and to build stronger, healthier
communities.
 
Over the two and half plus decades since its founding, having served more than 1,180,000  
children, teens and adults throughout Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia,
Educational Theatre has become Kaiser Permanente's signature contribution to community
health education.

Educational Theatre's innovative, award winning health-promotion performances use the
engaging medium of live theatre to share age-appropriate, up-to-date facts that are necessary
for making healthier life-choices. Our presentations go beyond delivering healthy messages-
about violence, anger management, discrimination, peer pressure, obesity, physical activity
and healthy eating- we prepare young people to become health ambassadors themselves.
By involving the audience in the performances, Educational Theatre mobilizes them to serve
as health advocates in their communities, arming them with valuable information to better
their lives and the lives of those around them-family, friends, neighbors, other children and
adults.

As a non-profit organization and a public citizen, Kaiser Permanente is proud of the work and
success of Educational Theatre and remains dedicated to developing innovative education
programs that will improve the health of the communities we serve.
